Quick Setup Synergy in Ubuntu 11.10

Ever wonder having one mouse and one keyboard to access multiple PC across platform. 

Yes, the answer is using Synergy. This free and open source software will easily make your mouse move seamlessly between all of them, no boundaries :).

In this post, I'll show you how easy setting up your synergy in Ubuntu 11.10.

• Download Synergy from their website (I prefer the stable version).
• Install in both (or more) of your machine. It's using deb file so no worries right :)
• After that install quicksynergy (again in both of your machine), it's kinda like GUI for synergy. Just type the syntax below

sudo apt-get install quicksynergy 

 

• Now, in the host machine, where your mouse and keyboard attached. type in terminal (again)

• It'll call small window show-up like this

Adjust where the edge that will take you to the next PC

• Write the host name on dedicated edge. 
• Next on client PC, where you want your mouse and keyboard appear. Same with above, call up your quicksynergy using terminal.
• Since it on client side, move to 'use' tab in quicksynergy window. It's no use messing around with 'share' tab here, so just move to 'use' okay.
• Now fill your host IP address, if you using DHCP just get back to your host PC and type 'ifconfig' in terminal to retrieve that
• After you filled the host IP address in client side, move back to host PC and click execute.
• Be sure you do the same in client side, click execute.
• At this point you should notice that whenever your mouse touch your right edge, Voila ! it'll move to your next machine (client side).

Should I buy a New Mic ?

If you make a tutorial and using voice narration for it, then you should make it less noise and of course crystal clear sound. But lately after make a several times recording (you know making a screencast isn't easy as you think), my sound was really pretty bad.

This what I've been used for my tutorial.

I realize that I need to invest for a new mic? So, any recomendation guys?

Start Recording Again

Okay, for a couple of month I haven't record any tutorial or even write them down. So, now I decide to continue again. And actually I've already make a timelapse tutorial but haven't published just yet.

Cara Instan Konversi Gambar menjadi PDF

Kali ini ingin berbagi tutorial sederhana tentang bagaimana membuat PDF (portable document format) dari beberapa gambar. Sebenernya ini adalah kasus yang saya hadapi ketika saya harus membuat presentasi.

Walaupun sebenernya Libreoffice Impress sudah sangat baik dalam membuat presentasi, namun saya masih kurang nyaman kalau harus membuatnya disana.

Saya lebih suka membuat presentasi menggunakan Inkscape, karena lebih dinamis dan personalized aja.

Nah, problemnya adalah ketika sudah selesai membuatnya, output filenya masih dalam bentuk PNG dan masih terpisah-pisah. Proses selanjutnya adalah mengkonversinya menjadi sebuah bundle PDF dan proses ini yang masih wasting time menurut saya.

Sebelumnya saya melakukannya dengan mengimport satu persatu gambar slide yg sudah jadi ke Libreoffice Impress atau scribus, kemudian dari sana baru mengkonversi menjadi satu file pdf.

Sampai akhirnya saya menemukan cara yang super cepat, dan sepertinya cuma bisa dilakukan di linux / ubuntu #cheers.

Baik yang pertama kali harus anda lakukan adalah membuat sebuah folder ditempat yang mudah di akses, misalnya desktop. Setelah itu copy  semua gambar PNG yang sudah anda buat tadi. Kita namakan saja folder pdftest.

Sebelumnya dalam penamaan file, beri juga nomor sehingga pada saat proses konversi file gambar tidak tersusun acak. Contoh : slide001.png dst.

Jika seluruh file PNG sudah terpindah, sekarang kita bisa mengakses terminal. Arahkan ke folder yang sudah kita buat tadi dengan perintah cd, karena tadi kita taruh di desktop, maka kurang lebih syntaxnya :

cd /home/aditia/Desktop/pdftest

Cek dengan printah ls untuk memastikan kita sudah berada di tempat yang dimaksud. Untuk selanjutnya kita bisa langsung mengkonversi seluruh gambar PNG yang ada di folder tersebut menjadi sebuah file PDF, caranya dengan mengetikan perintah berikut ini di terminal :

convert *.png buku.pdf

Penjelasannya seperti berikut ini, 'convert' adalah instruksi konversi input. '*.png' maksudnya adalah seluruh file yang berformat PNG. 'buku.pdf' adalah nama file output beserta formatnya.
